The Mercedes-Benz GLS Grand Edition has been launched. Known as the S-Class of SUVs, the GLS has priced at INR 86.90 Lakhs (Ex-showroom India). There are two versions, priced identically. The GLS 350 d comes with a 3.0-litre, V6 diesel engine producing 258bhp of power and 620 Nm of peak torque.

The GLS 400 features a V6 petrol engine that delivers 333 bhp and 480 Nm of torque. With the GLS Grand Edition, Mercedes-Benz continues to raise the bar and offer best in class performance, premium luxury, cutting-edge technology, and plush interiors, which are inspired by the flagship luxury sedan–the S-Class.

The GLS Grand Edition gets LED headlamps with surrounding black rings which offer higher visibility. It comes fitted with 20-inch, 10-spoke light alloy wheels, painted in Black and having a high-sheen finish, to ensure a stylish appearance. The exterior identification and also has chrome fins on the bonnet that adds a lot of character to the big SUV. The enhanced fog lamp function highlights the outer half of the carriageway more effectively while reducing the glare due to light reflected by the fog.

In addition to the features available on the standard GLS, the Grand Edition gets a redesigned instrument panel with semi-integrated colour Media Display and rear seat entertainment system comprising of two 7″ HD screens with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality as standard. On the standard GLS, the rear seat entertainment system is an optional feature. The interior of the GLS conveys the trademark feel-good atmosphere of the Mercedes-Benz brand. In terms of storage space, the GLS provides a volume of 680 to 2300 litres of boot space.

The GLS Grand Edition retains the same engine lineup with a 3.0 litre, V6 diesel engine producing 258 hp on the GLS 350 d variant and a 3.0 litre, V6 petrol engine producing 333 hp on the GLS 400 variant.

The Mercedes-Benz GLS is large, comfortable and is one of the few SUVs today that lays claim to the title of a proper seven-seater. It has a significant advantage as it is the largest car of the lot and is second to none when it comes to road presence and image. However, the competition has now moved quite a bit ahead when it comes to design and technology as both the Audi Q7 and the Volvo XC90 are now a whole generation ahead.
