Toyota India launched their latest, the 2018 Camry Hybrid, without much of a hoopla. Priced at Rs. 37.22 lakh (ex-showroom), the updated model gets a few tweaks in the interior while the exterior and the drivetrain remain identical to its previous model.
With a 2.5 – litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine under the hood, it makes 160hp at 5,750rpm and 213Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. As a Hybrid sedan, it has another motor – a 650V electric motor which produces a peak power of 141bhp. Even though the engine is the same as the one in its older model, the Japanese manufacturer claims it to be more fuel efficient offering a mileage of 19.16kpl.
The Camry’s interior gets a brand new tan coloured upholstery and faux wood trim on the dashboard, steering wheel, armrests and centre console. A 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel sits on the dashboard as opposed to the old 4-spoke unit. Some of the other luxurious features that the Camry can boast of are, head-up display, wireless charging pad, 3-zone automatic climate control, power reclining rear seats with collapsible headrest and ventilated front seats.
With an untouched exterior, it comes with the same chrome grille with automatic LED headlamps and the front bumper flaunts a large air dam with circular LED fog lamps and triangular turn signals on either side.
On the safety front, the 2018 Camry Hybrid comes equipped with a host of features – 9 airbags, ABS, EBD, vehicle stability control, hill start assist, electronically controlled brake system (ECB) and ISOFIX child safety seat mounting points among others.
The 2018 Camry Hybrid will give a tough competition to the likes of Honda Accord Hybrid in the Indian automobile market.
